Protecting our home
The painting follows milestones in the life journey of my grandmother Hanna Trainin, from the house where she grew up in the town of Jūrburg, Lithuania in the late 1930s, to the house where she lived with my grandfather David Trainin most of her life and where I used to spend time in my childhood.
The painting was inspired by signs to protect the home from the evil eye that were customary to hang on the doors of houses in the 13th century in Spain and serves as a memorial to her family, the Krabelnik family, most of whom perished in the Holocaust.
Technique: Acrylic on wood.
